The village is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and offers a variety of residential neighborhoods as well as pastoral rural areas. A charming downtown is filled with independent retail shops, galleries, several restaurants, mainstay bakeries and coffee shops. It is the largest community in the county with a population of approximately 8,500 and covering 40 square miles. The town is also home to Middlebury College, a small liberal arts college with a global reputation.  Its idyllic campus has an international draw, with programming offering multi-cultural opportunities and sporting events for the greater community. Eddy Farm School for Horse & Rider on South Street Extension is known for boarding, training and horsemanship summer camps.  Aurora Learning Center supports Addison County children and their families with educational and recreational experiences in after-school programming, summer and vacation camps, and daytime learning opportunities. Middlebury Area Land Trust, better known as MALT, provides year-round youth programming and camps, as well as the Trail Around Middlebury (TAM), an incredible resource for all ages with 18 miles of footpath encircling the village and links to several hundred acres of town land, conserved properties and local landmarks. You’ll want to visit Frog Hollow Bikes for rentals, maps and recommendations for great local rides (as well as for maintenance, repair and sales!). And we cannot forget the Ralph Myhre Golf Course that offers the public incredible views from the edge of town on the Middlebury College campus from its beautiful 18-hole golf course.

Middle Plains Forest is located minutes from the Green Mountain National Forest just off Vermont Route 125. Just north of the property, Route 125 follows boulder-strewn Middlebury River upstream to the higher elevations of the national forest, where Middlebury College's Breadloaf summer campus is just 7 miles away. Two miles further to the southeast, just below Middlebury Gap, is the college's Snow Bowl Ski Area. Minutes to the west of Middle Plains Forest is East Middlebury Village, and just a short further drive to the northwest is Middlebury's historic village center and college campus. Access to the property is via a gravel road that leads to areas that provide home development options well away from neighbors and road noise. With tree clearing, nice views of the nearby Green Mountains are likely possible from these home sites. The land is situated on level glacial plains, the first private land west of the National Forest. A small brook traverses the southern portion of the land. The forest is one of the largest land holdings in this area and has been held by the same family since the late 1950's. Over the years, the goal of ownership has focused on growing high-quality timber, a goal that has been successfully achieved. Fine oak stands dominate the forest, covering well drained, mostly level terrain. Walking trails run through these woods, providing exceptional recreational opportunities.
